my name is

MELLODY VILLEGAS

Hey!

I was born and raised in Chicago, IL.

I currently live in a suburb south of Chicago and recently recommitted myself to the art of creating visual imagery through photography and cinematography.

I've been sharing my perspective through photographic

story-telling since 2008; though I've always considered myself an artist since childhood.

From childhood, I always had an innate ability to express myself through various art forms such as painting, drawing, and graffiti. My desire to convey emotion through the arts also lead me to dance, graphic design, cosmetology, interior design, photography, videography, & cooking. Despite the plethora of hobbies and interest I've developed in my lifespan, the one thing that remained consistent was the fact that I always had a camera in my hand; either recording or freezing my life's moments, capturing the organic beauty around me despite how ugly I felt life might've been at the time....(cause we all know how ugly life can get!).

I remember getting my first Kodak camera at age 14 for Christmas. Not too long after at the age of 16, I became a teenage mom and of course, my whole world flipped upside down. I used that Kodak camera to take all of my own maternity photos and my sons baby photos and that’s really where my love for photography began. I learned the value of having memorable images once that very same Kodak camera got stolen with all my photos in it and all of those images were gone. I have one photo from my pregnancy and a handful of my son when he was born...such a sh*tty feeling! Nonetheless, the adversity and hardships I faced has made me resilient in ways that is hard to put into words...so now I put them into photos...just not with a kodak camera. :)

Being able to reflect back on a memory that is not only engrained in your mind, but being able to visually see that memory brought back to life is timeless and is something that we should not take for granted. You see, photography is something special. You can look back at an old picture and can't help but feel the emotions conveyed through that image be it sad or happy. You may see a great image of a plate of food and your stomach automatically grumbles and your mouth waters...

the power of visual imagery is of great magnitude and one that I fully understand.

I created Venus Blix as a way for me to not only curate art but to deliver emotive imagery that exemplifies that very same p0wer.

Photography, videography, anything creative I do is merely me sharing my own perception of the world with you. I look forward to showing you how I view your world! :)
